Bruno Fernandes Named 2025/26 FWA Footballer of the Year

Manchester United is incredibly proud to announce that our captain, Bruno Fernandes, has been named the Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Footballer of the Year for the 2025/26 season.
The Portuguese maestro has enjoyed a truly historic campaign at the heart of United's midfield, becoming the first player from the club to win the prestigious award since Wayne Rooney claimed it back in the 2009/10 season. Earning 45 percent of the journalists' votes, Fernandes narrowly edged out Arsenal's Declan Rice by just 28 votes in a highly competitive race to claim the crown.
Fernandes has been the undisputed creative engine for the Reds this term. His remarkable tally of 19 Premier League assists so far this season has placed him on the brink of history. With three league matches still remaining in the campaign, our captain needs just one more assist to equal the all-time Premier League single-season record of 20, a legendary milestone currently shared only by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.
His spectacular run of form recently included crucial, match-defining assists in fixtures against the likes of Brentford, Chelsea, Leeds United, and Aston Villa, consistently providing the decisive cutting edge for the team. Statistically, Fernandes has directly assisted over 30 percent of Manchester United's Premier League goals this season, pulling the strings and serving up chance after chance for his teammates.
Everyone at Manchester United would like to congratulate Bruno on this incredible and richly deserved achievement. As we head into the final stretch of the season, all eyes will be on our captain as he looks to provide that magical 20th assist and permanently etch his name into the Premier League history books.
