Sergio Ramos Has Reached A €450m Agreement to Buy Sevilla FC
In a stunning development that brings one of Spanish football’s most storied careers full circle, Real Madrid and Spain legend Sergio Ramos is on the verge of purchasing his boyhood club. Following intense negotiations and weeks of discreet meetings, Ramos has reportedly reached a blockbuster €450 million agreement to acquire a majority stake in Sevilla FC, partnering with the North American investment group Five Eleven Capital.
According to multiple reports in the Spanish media, the massive €450 million deal (which includes the club's existing debt) will see Ramos and his investment partners take over approximately 80% of Sevilla's share capital. For years, the Andalusian club has been controlled by a fractured ownership structure consisting of the Carrión, Castro, and Alés families, alongside former president José María del Nido Benavente. After a crucial meeting held this past Monday involving Ramos, his family, his lawyers, and the club's current majority shareholders, all major points of disagreement were finally resolved.
With the paperwork drawn up, the historic sale is now simply waiting on official bureaucratic formalities. The transition of power must be formally green-lit by Spain’s High Council of Sport (CSD), a mandatory requirement whenever more than 25% of a Public Limited Sports Company (SAD) is acquired.
The timing of Ramos’s takeover is highly critical, as he is stepping in to purchase Sevilla during one of the most delicate moments in the institution's modern history. The club is currently mired in both a deep economic and sporting crisis. With only three matchdays remaining in the 2025/26 La Liga season, Sevilla is flirting dangerously with the threat of relegation, sitting just three points above the drop zone.
The immediate future of the club is so uncertain that reports indicate the final acquisition contracts actually include specific clauses designed to adjust the final payment terms in the disastrous event that Sevilla is relegated to the Spanish second division.
For Sergio Ramos, the acquisition is deeply personal. The legendary defender arrived at Sevilla's academy at the age of 10 and broke into the first team before his high-profile move to Real Madrid in 2005. After a glittering 16-year run in the Spanish capital, followed by a stint at Paris Saint-Germain, Ramos made an emotional return to Sevilla for the 2023-24 season. He most recently took his talents to Mexico to play for CF Monterrey, but has clearly kept his eyes fixed firmly on the boardroom in Andalusia.
Assuming the CSD grants approval and the ink dries in the coming days, Ramos will officially transform from a storied academy graduate into the ultimate boss at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, tasked with the monumental challenge of restoring his boyhood club to its former glory.
