Paris Saint-Germain fans took to the streets across France to celebrate their team winning the Champions League over Arsenal, but the joyful night quickly turned into a scene of violence and tragedy. The final match took place in Budapest late Saturday night, and thousands of excited supporters poured out to celebrate the massive victory. However, the situation soon became dangerous. French authorities reported that 780 people were arrested nationwide as angry crowds clashed with the police. This number of arrests is a huge thirty-two percent increase from the unrest that happened when PSG won the same tournament last year. To handle the massive crowds, the government placed about twenty-two thousand police officers across the country. Despite this heavy police presence, rioters aimed fireworks directly at law enforcement. Interior Minister Laurent Nunez stated that fifty-seven security officers were hurt during these fights. In addition, two hundred and nineteen people who participated in the celebrations suffered injuries across France, with eight of them in serious condition. Violence broke out in seventy-one different areas, and there were also reports of thefts and looting in roughly fifteen cities. The situation became so intense on the famous Champs-Elysees avenue that the local mayor described it as an arena of urban warfare. The night of celebration also brought heartbreaking tragedy to the streets of Paris. A young man in his twenties lost his life after crashing his motocross bike directly into concrete blocks on a Paris ring road exit ramp. In a separate event in the capital city, another young man was severely injured in a knife attack that was reportedly connected to a robbery. These terrible events darkened what was meant to be a proud and historic moment for the football club and its devoted supporters.

Even with all the chaos, the official celebrations for the team are still moving forward. An estimated one hundred thousand people are expected to gather near the Eiffel Tower on Sunday afternoon for a massive parade with the winning players. After the parade, the team will be hosted by President Emmanuel Macron at the Elysee Palace. To prevent a repeat of Saturday night's violence, the government rejected calls to cancel the gatherings and instead assigned nearly six thousand police officers to keep the parade safe. The Interior Minister promised a strong police response to any trouble and warned that anyone trying to block traffic on the roads would face heavy fines. Here is the video of the violent clashes
